Understanding the Basics
What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a method of orthodontic treatment that uses a series of stiff, clear plastic aligners. These look sort of like a retainer, or a night guard you’d wear for teeth grinding.
Each set of aligners, which consists of an upper and lower aligner, is built to slowly move your teeth toward the proper position. Over time, switching through multiple sets of aligners will allow Dr. Shaggy to completely change your bite and the position of your teeth, and improve your smile.
Invisalign is not quite as versatile as traditional braces, but if you do not have severe problems with your bite alignment and your teeth, it’s a great alternative.
The Benefits
Of Invisalign Treatment
The most obvious benefit of Invisalign is that it’s much more subtle compared to braces. When you’re wearing your Invisalign aligners, your appearance and speech won’t be affected, so nobody has to know about your treatment unless you want them to know.
Invisalign is also more comfortable, since it does not have any jagged or sharp points or metal bits that could poke into your gums, cheeks, or other oral tissue.
You also can remove your Invisalign aligners to eat and drink, so there are no dietary restrictions and you can eat whatever you want. You’ll also take out your aligners to brush and floss, which makes it a lot easier to care for your teeth.
What To Expect From The Process
How Invisalign Works
To begin the process, you’ll come to our office for a consultation with Dr. Shaggy. She will perform a comprehensive oral exam and take x-rays of your mouth to determine if Invisalign is right for you.
If you’re approved, she will take scans of your mouth using a hand-held digital scanner, and begin working with Invisalign to build your aligners. Your first few sets of aligners will arrive at MODERN BITE DENTISTRY in a few weeks.
Then, you’ll come to our office to pick up your aligners, and get instructions on how to wear them from our experienced Frisco cosmetic dentist, Dr. Shaggy. Each set is usually worn for 2 weeks for 20-22 hours per day. You’ll come in about every 4-6 weeks for a brief checkup and to get your next few sets of aligners.
This same basic process will be repeated until your treatment is done, though there may be some minor changes depending on how your teeth move. On average, treatment time for Invisalign is about a year.

The iTero device stitches thousands of individual scans together, providing an interactive image of your teeth, and ensuring that Dr. Shaggy can work closely with Invisalign to develop the most effective treatment plan for your unique case.
In addition, thanks to our iTero scanner, we don’t have to take physical impressions of your mouth with dental putty and trays, which some patients find to be uncomfortable. That all adds up to a better Invisalign experience at our office.
